He was born on February 21, 1962, in Ithaca, New York, U.S. He died by suicide on September 12, 2008, at the age of 46 in Claremont, California, U.S. He was well known for Professor of English and Creative writing at University. His novels are also featured in TIME magazine as 100 best English Novels (1923-2005). He married to Karen L. Green on 27 December 2004.
He received early education in his hometown. He completed his degree of B.A from the Amherst College and MFA (Master of Fine Arts) from the University of Arizona.
