He was born on June 16, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York, U.S. He died on January 17, 2010, at the age of 72 in London England from a heart attack. He started his early education in his hometown. He completed his graduation ((A.B., A.M., PhD)) from Harvard University in 1958. Erich married Karen Marianne James (m. 1975, d.2010). He is the father of two children.
