NEW YORK: Bill Gates’ ex-wife, Melinda Gates, has rented an island for 32, 132,000 a night (Rs 20 million a night).
The couple announced their separation on Monday after living together for a long time, and wrote in a joint statement that after much thought and hard work on their relationship, we have decided to end the marriage.
However, the online newspaper TMZ quoted sources as saying that
The couple had made the decision in March, and at that time Melinda had rented the island of Calvin near Grenada in the West Indies.
According to TMZ sources, the plan was to allow Melinda, her three children, and their children’s companions to live on the island, but Bill Gates was reportedly not invited.
The island covers 80 acres (640 kanals), has ’25 magnificent suites and cottages’, and is located five minutes by boat from Grenada.
According to TMZ, the news of the couple’s separation was delayed because Bill Gates and Melinda’s lawyers were trying to reach a ‘divorce agreement’, but Melinda still decided to go to the island.
Sources also said that the family has mostly supported Melinda, and the separation was not “pleasant”.
According to the financial newspaper Bloomberg, on the day the couple announced their intention to divorce, Bill Gates’ investment firm transferred $ 1.8 billion to Melinda’s account.
According to Freddie Forbes,
Bill Gates is the fourth richest man in the world with a net worth of $24, 124 billion.
The couple has three children, Jennifer, 25, Rory, 21, and Phoebe, 18. He made no further statement after the divorce was announced, but his eldest daughter, Jennifer, issued a statement requesting privacy so that her family could take the next step in our lives.
Jennifer, 25, wrote on Instagram that
By now many of you must have heard the news that my parents are separating. This is a difficult time for the family. I am still learning how to support myself and my family in my actions and emotions, and I am grateful to be given a place for that.
