He married to Reena Dutta (m. 1986; div. 2002) and Kiran Rao (m. 2005; div. 2021) and is the father of 3 children. He started primary education in his hometown and completed his education at Narsee Monjee College.
He created his own production company in 1999 with the name of Aamir Khan Production. Lagaan (2001) is the first film of this production company.
