ISLAMABAD: Justice Ayesha Malik has been appointed as the first woman judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The Federal Ministry of Law has issued notification for the appointment of Justice Ayesha Malik of the Lahore High Court as a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Earlier, the President had approved the appointment of Justice Ayesha Malik as a judge of the Supreme Court.
The Judicial Commission had unanimously recommended the appointment of Justice Ayesha Malik to the Supreme Court.
According to the notification of the Law Ministry, the appointment of Justice Ayesha Malik to the Supreme Court would be effective from the day she took oath.
Justice Ayesha Malik was born in Lahore in 1966 and holds an LLM degree from Harvard University in the United States. She is a well-known banking lawyer who was appointed a judge of the Lahore High Court in 2012, where she became the fourth most senior judge.
Working as Despite being ranked fourth in seniority, the decision of the Judicial Commission to appoint him as a judge in the Supreme Court was also opposed by the Bar Councils.
She is expected to be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2030. She will retire at the age of 65 in 2031.
