Biography

Abdul Sattar Edhi was a famous Pakistani humanitarian, philanthropist, and ascetic. He was born on February 28, 1928, in Bantva, Bantva Manavadar, British India. He died on July 8, 2016 in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. He is currently resting in Edhi Village, Karachi. He married Bilquis Edhi in 1965 and was the father of four children.

He was well known for being the founder of the Edhi Foundation, one of the world’s largest ambulance networks. Edhi Foundation works for animal shelters, homeless shelters, rehabilitation centers, & orphanages in Pakistan.

He received numerous awards in his life including the Lenin Peace Prize (1988), Bacha Khan Peace Award (1990), Nishan-e-Imtiaz (1989), Wolf of Bhogio Peace Award (2005), and Ahmadiyya Muslim Peace Prize (2010).
