Biography

Ayan Hirsi Ali is a famous Somali-born Dutch-American Activist, Writer, and Former Politician. She was born on November 13, 1969, in Mogadishu, Banaadir, Somali Democratic Republic. She experienced the harsh realities of female genital mutilation at a young age. She moved to the Netherlands at the age of 23. After that she gained Dutch citizenship and was involved in Dutch Politics, joining the People’s Party for Freedom Democracy (VVD). In 2003, she was elected to the lower house of the Dutch Parliament. Hirsi Ali has founded the AHA Foundation, advocating for women’s rights and combating harmful cultural practices. 

She completed her education of MSc (Master of Science) from Leiden University. She is best known for her Women’s rights advocacy, criticism of female genital mutilation, criticism of religion, criticism of Islam, and criticism of Islamism. She married Niall Ferguson in 2011 and was the mother of 2 children. She received numerous awards in her life including being named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World.
