Leading Indian Author Kamla Bhasin has Died of Cancer.

New Delhi: Leading Indian author and Pakistani-born feminist Kamla Bhasin has died after a long battle with cancer.

Kamla Bhasin played a key role in the country’s struggle for basic women’s rights until the 1980s and 1990s, while she also took part in demonstrations against the curse of dowry, rape and sexual abuse of women in the country.

Kamla Bhasin also sponsored a number of organizations in which she sought to create awareness among the people about fundamental rights through her writings.

In an interview with The Quentin in 2019, Kamala expressed her views, saying that she first heard the slogan of women’s rights in Pakistan in 1980.

She said that:

At that time the group chanting the slogan was not political but was chanted by women who were fighting for women’s rights.

Kamla Bhasin said that:

She wrote her poem inspired by such slogans.
