Thai Ngoc or Hai Ngoc (born 1942) is an insomniac from Vietnam . According to Vietnamese news outlet Thanh Nien , he is particularly famous for claiming to have stayed awake for 46 years.
Ngoc is said to have acquired the ability not to sleep after an excess of fever in 1973 , but according to Vietnam Investment Review , there is no apparent cause.
At the time of Thanh Nien’s report, Ngoc was not suffering from any particular illness, other than being unable to sleep. He was sane and says he can carry two 50kg bags for 4km every day .
In, however, Ngoc reported that he was starting to feel “like a plant without water” due to lack of sleep .
Ngoc refused to be taken abroad for testing, he has not left his village for 60 years and is afraid of testing .
