The 190th birthday of Jonathan the Tortoise was celebrated

The 190th birthday of Jonathan, the world’s oldest tortoise, was celebrated at the official residence of the Governor of St. Helena.

Born in 1832 after the death of French King Napoleon Bonaparte and brought to Britain 50 years later, Jonathan is kept at Plantation House, the official residence of the Governor of St Helena.

Saint Helena in the South Atlantic is where the defeated French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte died in exile in 1821.
