Hypatia Murder

Hypatia’s life was tragically cut short by a heinous act of violence. During the Christian season of Lent in March 415 AD, a mob of Christians led by a man named Peter attacked Hypatia. They ambushed her carriage, carried her inside a former pagan temple that had been turned into a Christian church, and murdered her. After killing, they stripped and burned her body. Her assassination was political. Many rumors said that she was involved in a fight between Orestes the Roman prefect of Alexandria, and Cyril, the bishop of Alexandria.
