The online petition said the actor’s latest remarks on the protests in Hong Kong in 2019 violated the spirit of freedom of expression.
In an online petition, people are calling for Donnie Yen to be banned from representing Hong Kong at the Oscars over his statements calling him a supporter of the Chinese Communist regime.

People say that Donnie Yen’s statements undermine the Hong Kong people’s struggle for democracy and freedom and hurt their feelings. Donnie Yen criticized the pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong in 2019, saying that they were not protests but riots.

However, no statement has come out from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on this request of the people of Hong Kong.
